We have gathered a series of photos that illustrate the fact that Russia’s currently (Re)Building an Empire. Therefore in this article, you’ll see Russia’s Modern Architecture with a focus on Moscow and St. Petersburg – these two cities being the site of some spectacular projects.
Confronted with a total collapse in 1999, when it declared bankruptcy, today Russia is one of the most fast growing economies in the world. Aided by its huge oil and gas reserves (which account to some 50% of the total state revenues), the Euro-Asian Federation has built some tremendous structures in the past 10 years, including the tallest skyscraper in Europe – Mercury City Tower (Moscow, and 8 of the 20 tallest building on the continent, 7 of which were completed in the last 7 years.
Now, below you’ll see projects completed as well as projects that the Russians are currently working on. Although Okhta Center from St. Petersburg is impressive, it can’t be compared by no means with the Moscow City which is slightly similar with Manhattan (New York) or La Defense (Paris).
